It is 1944 during the last fifteen months of WWll. Twelve thousand Jews, men, women, children were being herded daily onto the Budapest train platform for transport to Auschwitz. Yet on an adjacent platform another train was poised to transport one thousand six hundred eighty-four Jews to Switzerland.
What was happening here? Why this odd number of Jews on the other train? What and who is behind this incredible, totally unbelievable situation? Sending a train full of Jews to Switzerland in the middle of the war by the SS was akin to sending it to the moon. Concluding that the order must have come down from the highest echelon of the Nazi hierachy, the author’s curiosity got the better of him and he embarked on a five year research quest. As the full picture unfolded, layer by complex layer, his doubt on whether there was still any untold WWll story to be told was soon alleviated. The odd passenger train that drew his attention at first, turned out to just be the tip of the iceberg.

The author takes the reader along from one incongruous plot to another, to an array of implausible, incredible and surreal sub-plots. The story gallops across Europe, from war-torn, gritty Vienna, Berlin, Hamburg and Budapest, to the Bergen-Belsen and Mauthausen camps, to neutral, peaceful Stockholm and to elegant St. Gallen and Zurich and on to exotic Istanbul, Aleppo, Jerusalem and Cairo, all in an adventurous and breathless chase aimed at beating the clock and save as many lives as possible before war’s end. A colorful cast of characters accompanies the reader, among them world leaders and including Oskar Schindler and Raul Wallenberg.

It is a tale of human-nature in all its vagaries, a ‘tour-de-force’ of brain vs. brawn that challenges the mind, a precipitous gamble of life and death in a fast, high stakes poker game.

Why buy this book? I haven't got the faintest idea, when you can buy any book around, written by known and famous authors. What's this book about? - The wisdom and folly of man probably. But before you shell out your money, it's not about sex, it's got no murder in it, no car chases and nobody finds a horse's head in his bed in the morning. This is merely a collection of stories, telling of a few little adventures that befell me while traipsing through this planet. It's a pretty good planet actually, as planets go and it is the one we got.

So, the Muse just hit me one day and led me to pick up a few snapshots from an active life played in seemingly unconnected arenas. It appears so only because we live in a world of specialization. College, that last preparatory pit stop before entering the big race, emphasizes majoring in a trade or a discipline that will enable the practitioner to pay his mortgage on time. High-tech and finance may of course turn the tables on any traditional projections of success.

I was compelled to do my thing. Turned out that it wasn't one thing, it was lots of things. Then I woke up one early morning shortly after midnight, and asked myself whether I can afford this? No, was the short version answer. So are you going to keep at it? Yes, was another short version answer. I was committed to follow my interests and delve into things that I felt I can master, eventually control and lead. I am a lousy follower and joiner. It never worked for me.

In a nutshell, that's what the book is about. You might enjoy it. After you done with it, I would love to hear your thoughts, you might be able to explain it better than I did. Enjoy!

Trawling Twenty Centuries is an intriguing look behind the scenes of the making of a museum, the people and the inevitable politics involved. The excitement grows when the author takes the reader along a fourteen country research quest to create the museum’s content. The fast paced, rapidly moving data-trawling operation brings up surprising details of the anthropology, geography, history, religion, architecture and archeology of the times and places. For the reader tempted to follow in the footsteps of the story, the book acts as a remarkable travel guide. It is an information studded analysis of a 2000 year span that connects the ancient with the modern while keenly observing a most unusual cast of international characters with a generous dollop of humor.   The author is a New York City-based observer of as many unfolding scenes as he is able to absorb while holding his ear to the ground. He is constantly amazed at what goes on around him and how history repeats itself when it should know better. Overwhelmed with spin and agenda generated interpretations of events he calls on his two, think-alike buddies Sal and Al to cut through the maze of manufactured truth and try to get to the bottom of the real truth. You, dear reader and everyone are always invited to join in and participate in the airing of the dirty laundry at
